The Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting Service (ABS) is set to relocate to the Caribbean Cinemas building by June, after the government finalised an agreement with the property's owner. Information Minister Melford Nicholas confirmed the development, according to Antigua News Room.
Speaking on Monday Meeting with the Minister, Nicholas acknowledged that securing a permanent solution for ABS has been one of the more persistent challenges of his tenure. The national broadcaster has been operating from a series of temporary locations — including Parliament and the Cecil Building — after staff were moved out of its previous facility over health and safety concerns.
Nicholas said talks to secure the Caribbean Cinemas site began last November and have since advanced to the technical phase. Public Works is currently preparing designs, and engineers are moving forward with plans for the transition. He noted that new equipment will be necessary, as the broadcaster's existing setup is not compatible with the upgraded studio environment the new location will require.
While the relocation addresses ABS's immediate operational needs, Nicholas stressed that the long-term vision remains a purpose-built headquarters at the Sunshine Car Park Hub. He described that facility as the preferred permanent solution for the national broadcaster.
