The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has appointed Donna Chaia as its Third Vice Chair, a key internal move as the party builds toward the next general election. According to Antigua News Room, Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed the appointment, describing it as part of a broader effort to complete the party's executive structure.
Browne made the announcement during the Browne and Browne programme, where he outlined the party's election readiness efforts, including finalising its slate of candidates and filling leadership positions.
"Among them… our third vice chair… Comrade Donna Chaia," Browne said, as he named newly confirmed members of the party executive.
The Prime Minister framed the ABLP's leadership selections as merit-based, describing the party as "a meritocratic institution" in which advancement is tied to consistent contribution and commitment. He noted that individuals who actively defend and promote the party are recognised through appointments to leadership roles, particularly as elections draw near.
Browne identified the completion of the executive as a critical step in placing the party in a "state of readiness," alongside ratifying candidates and mobilising supporters across constituencies.
The ABLP is expected to formally confirm both its executive lineup and candidate slate at its upcoming convention, as the party moves into full campaign mode ahead of the general election.
