Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that up to 150 condominium units from the Booby Alley redevelopment project are expected to be handed over to residents in the Point area by August.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the announcement during his weekly programme, stating that construction on the units is expected to be completed between May and June, with approximately two months of additional work required to install landscaping and basic amenities before residents can move in.
The Prime Minister called on residents — particularly those assigned to ground-floor units — to take an active role in maintaining their surroundings and adding greenery to the development.
Browne noted that the project replaces what he described as overcrowded and inadequate housing. He recalled that the site previously accommodated more than 100 chattel homes, some of which lacked proper sanitation. Initial scepticism from residents, he said, has since given way to broader support as the development has taken shape.
The Prime Minister also outlined several other ongoing projects. A new cruise upland facility on Lower Newgate Street is expected to be completed within months.
In Barbuda, Browne said major investments are continuing. A hotel development linked to actor Robert De Niro is on track to open its first phase by the end of the year, with guests expected to be welcomed in early 2026.
On the subject of infrastructure, Browne said resurfacing work on All Saints Road will begin shortly. The project will be led by the Public Works Department following delays attributed to an overseas contractor.
