Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the Booby Alley housing development is on track to deliver 150 condominium units to residents of the Point area by August of this year, according to Antigua.news.
Speaking on his weekly Browne and Browne Show, Browne said the units would become available following an approximately 60-day period after construction is completed in May or June, during which plants and basic amenities will be installed.
The Prime Minister urged ground-floor residents in particular to keep their surroundings clean and to plant additional greenery around the buildings.
"On about three and a half acres of land, you had a hundred and something chattel properties, some of them without toilet facilities," Browne said, highlighting the scale of the transformation underway in the area.
Browne acknowledged that the project faced resistance in its early stages, recalling direct confrontations with residents who doubted the development would ever materialise. "I said to them that I understood their anxiety at the time. However, what we're doing, we're bringing relief to them, better living conditions," he said, adding that those same residents had since witnessed the transformation firsthand.
Beyond Booby Alley, the Prime Minister outlined several additional development projects either underway or nearing completion across the twin-island nation.
He said the Global Ports cruise upland facility on Lower Newgate Street — which will include retail shops, amenities, and one of the island's largest pools — would be completed within months.
In Barbuda, Browne said the Peace, Love and Happiness project had attracted approximately one billion US dollars in investment. He added that the Robert De Niro hotel remains on track to complete its first phase by year-end and begin receiving occupants in the first quarter of next year.
On road infrastructure, Browne confirmed that the Public Works Department would begin resurfacing All Saints Road by Monday, after a Canadian firm indicated it could not mobilise for another two months. Works will start from Townhouse heading south. The Prime Minister also noted that the government has not yet drawn on a $100 million allocation set aside for road works.
