The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) has announced a structured programme for the replacement of expired voter identification cards, as the nation prepares for upcoming electoral activities. According to Antigua.news, the Commission released details of the initiative urging all eligible voters to ensure their documentation is current.
The replacement service will operate Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at registration units across constituencies. ABEC is directing eligible voters to visit the registration unit where their names appear on the electoral register to begin the process.
Applicants must present their expired voter's ID card, a valid government-issued identification document, supporting documents for any change in marital status, and proof of address. The Commission notes that residency verification may also be conducted. For individuals who have lost their expired voter's ID, a valid government-issued ID must be presented to proceed.
As part of the replacement process, applicants' demographic information may be updated, including a new photograph, signature, and fingerprint validation. Replacement cards are expected to be ready within approximately two weeks of application and must be collected from the respective constituency registration unit. ABEC has confirmed that expired cards will be retained by registration officers once new cards are issued.
The programme comes amid heightened focus on voter readiness, with authorities encouraging citizens to bring their documentation up to date ahead of any potential elections.
