Prime Minister Gaston Browne has signalled that Antigua and Barbuda could head to the polls within 90 days — and possibly sooner — urging citizens and political candidates alike to begin preparations without delay.
According to Antigua.news, Browne issued the warning recently, making clear that the timeline for a general election may be shorter than many anticipate. "Even if I said 90 days, it could be before," the prime minister stated, raising the prospect of an earlier-than-expected polling date.
Browne is now calling on citizens nationwide to ensure they are properly registered and hold valid voter identification cards ahead of the anticipated vote. "I am appealing to the people to get re-registered because yes, there will be general elections, and the earlier you get your card, the better," he said.
The prime minister also directed his message at political candidates and party supporters, urging them to intensify their ground-level efforts in the weeks ahead. He identified the next three weeks as particularly critical for voter mobilisation. "I am asking the candidates to go out on the road in the next three weeks in particular to get our supporters ready," Browne added.
The remarks have sharply heightened political anticipation across the twin-island nation, with speculation growing that a snap general election could be imminent.
