Nearly half of the approximately 40,000 Antiguans and Barbudans required to replace their voter identification cards have not yet done so, leaving the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission facing a significant shortfall, according to Antigua News Room.

Official figures show that 19,567 applications have been received to date, meaning roughly 20,000 eligible voters — almost one in two — have not yet begun the process.

The replacement drive launched in August 2024 for holders of expired cards, but uptake has remained slow throughout. Of the total applications recorded, 18,320 were submitted in 2025, with only 1,247 added so far in 2026.

Recent data points to declining momentum. Applications in the first week of March stood at 212, falling to 129 in the second week and dropping sharply to just 43 in the third week.

The Electoral Commission is urging all residents who have not yet updated their cards to visit their constituency registration units as soon as possible with the required documents.
