St Mary's South Member of Parliament Kelvin "Shugy" Simon has welcomed the installation of lighting at the Bolans playing field, calling it a long-overdue improvement for the community following years of advocacy.
According to Antigua News Room, Simon shared the update directly from the site, where installation work is currently underway, expressing satisfaction that the project is finally coming to fruition.
"After years of advocacy for our lights to be installed, the guys are here installing them," Simon said, noting that residents are already responding positively to the development.
The new lighting is expected to allow local teams to host matches at the Bolans facility once again, ending the need for teams to travel elsewhere to play their home games.
"This is all we needed to be able to come and watch the guys play… in our community," Simon said.
The MP added that the improvement would help rebuild local support for teams, making it easier for community members to attend games on a regular basis.
Simon credited what he described as "relentless advocacy" on behalf of residents as a driving force behind the progress, framing the development as part of broader ongoing efforts to strengthen community infrastructure in the area.
Installation work remains ongoing, with residents anticipating the project's full completion and the return of football activity to the Bolans facility.
