The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has selected Dr Philmore Benjamin as its candidate for the St Mary's North constituency, replacing veteran Member of Parliament Sir Molwyn Joseph. According to Antigua News Room, environmental advocate Kendra Beazer has been chosen to contest the Barbuda seat.
Both candidates are expected to be formally confirmed at the party's delegates convention on April 12, as speculation mounts over a possible snap general election.
Benjamin is a physician who crossed from the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) to the ABLP last year. He currently serves as a consultant to community clinics. Beazer, a former Barbuda Council member, also made the transition from the Barbuda People's Movement (BPM) and will face long-serving MP Trevor Walker in what is expected to be a competitive contest.
The selections represent a strategic shift for the ABLP as it positions itself ahead of the next general election. The party has not held the Barbuda parliamentary seat since 2017, with the BPM maintaining its grip on the island — including a sweep of the 2025 Barbuda Council elections.
