The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has advised residents across more than a dozen communities to expect continued water service disruptions as repair work progresses on a damaged section of a major transmission line at Crabbs. According to Antigua.news, the affected 20-inch fibreglass pipeline is being replaced with more durable HDPE pipes, with crews currently engaged in preparing and fusing the new lines.
In an update issued Friday, March 20, 2026, APUA confirmed that teams are actively working to complete the repairs, with an estimated completion time later that night.
While alternative sources — including the Barnacle Point and Delaps facilities — are providing temporary supply, APUA cautioned that customers in certain areas may experience shorter service windows or reduced water pressure due to the distance from those sources. The authority acknowledged that current supply arrangements may fall short of normal service expectations.
A wide cross-section of communities served by the Crabbs Reverse Osmosis plant are affected by the disruption. These include Weirs, North Sound, Gunthorpes, Fitches Creek, Pigotts, Paynters, Lightfoot East and West, Herberts, Parham, All Saints, Freeman's Village, and sections of Buckley Line, among others. Areas along Old Parham Road, Cassada Gardens, Friars Hill Road, and parts of St. John's are also impacted.
APUA expressed appreciation for the public's patience and urged all affected customers to conserve water while repairs remain underway. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the issue as quickly and safely as possible.
