New lighting has been installed at Bolans Playing Field in St. Mary's South, a development that local officials say will expand access to the facility and improve safety for residents — particularly young people. According to Antigua News Room, the project has been welcomed as a significant step toward enhancing community infrastructure in the area.
ABLP Caretaker Senator Dwayne George announced the installation via social media, describing it as "an important milestone in securing the future of our community and, most importantly, our youths."
The upgraded lighting is expected to enable evening use of the playing field, opening the space for sports, recreation, and community events beyond daylight hours. "This improvement ensures that children, teenagers, and young adults have a safe, well-lit environment to engage in sports, recreational activities, and community events, even after the sun goes down," George said.
The senator framed the investment as more than an infrastructure upgrade, linking it to broader goals of youth development and community well-being. "By investing in spaces like Bolans Playing Field, we are not just improving infrastructure; we are investing in the growth, development, and well-being of our next generation," he said.
The installation comprises multiple high-powered LED lighting units mounted on poles positioned around the field.
George indicated the project forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen community spaces across St. Mary's South, stating that such initiatives contribute to "a stronger, brighter, and more vibrant" community.
