A High Court jury has convicted Sazeek Joseph of attempted rape and serious indecency following a brief trial this week, according to Antigua News Room.

The charges arise from an incident spanning the night of June 8 into the early hours of June 9, 2022, involving a woman who was 18 years old at the time.

Prosecutors told the court that the complainant had agreed to meet Joseph after he offered to help arrange her transportation. As the evening progressed, she grew uncomfortable with his behaviour and attempted to create distance between them.

Joseph later returned for the woman and drove her to a secluded location, where he made unwanted advances and used intimidation. The complainant resisted, and the assault was not completed.

As reported by Antigua News Room, evidence presented to the jury included messages exchanged between the two individuals, as well as an audio recording in which Joseph made admissions regarding his actions. The complainant reported the incident to police the same day.

The jury also heard that Joseph provided inconsistent accounts to investigators and contradicted himself during the trial.

Joseph has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear before the court for sentencing on April 27.
