The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has reaffirmed a policy designed to empower citizens who have lived on Crown lands for extended periods, offering them a formal pathway to land ownership at a concessional rate.

Under the initiative, individuals who have occupied Crown lands for more than ten years will be eligible to purchase up to one-quarter of an acre at EC$1.00 per square foot. The Cabinet described the policy as part of the Government's broader efforts to promote homeownership, security of tenure, and economic empowerment.

By enabling long-term occupants to formalise ownership of land they have developed and maintained, the Government aims to improve living conditions and expand opportunities for wealth creation among citizens.

The policy also targets the regularisation of informal settlements in a structured manner. Residents who gain legal title will benefit from greater housing security, while the State will be better positioned to implement planning, infrastructure development, and community enhancement initiatives in those areas.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Cabinet stated that the initiative reflects the administration's continued commitment to uplifting citizens and broadening access to land ownership, particularly for those with long-standing ties to the lands they occupy.

The Government reiterated its dedication to policies that advance social equity, economic inclusion, and sustainable national development.
