The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is setting its sights on internal party renewal, with plans underway for a national convention in April 2026. According to Antigua.news, the move comes on the back of the party's decisive victory in the St. Philip's North by-election.
Prime Minister and Political Leader Gaston Browne has confirmed the upcoming convention, though no exact date has been announced. He has called on party branches and affiliated groups to begin organizing in preparation for the key event.
The convention is expected to play a critical role in shaping the party's future direction. Central to its agenda will be the ratification of candidates ahead of the next general elections, which are constitutionally due in 2028. Delegates will also elect senior party leadership, including members of the executive committee and board of trustees.
As part of the preparatory process, all 17 constituency branches have been tasked with selecting 15 official delegates each. Those representatives will be responsible for voting on contested positions and key party decisions when the convention convenes.
