Two secondary school students have been given a rare opportunity to observe diplomacy in action as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2026.

According to Antigua News Room, Kiearra Smith, Deputy Head Girl of All Saints Secondary School, and Emari John, Head Boy of Antigua Grammar School, were selected to participate in a special youth initiative designed to provide insight into the planning and execution of the high-level international summit.

The programme allowed both students to attend meetings and gain direct exposure to the coordination efforts involved in hosting world leaders. Officials described the experience as a behind-the-scenes look at global diplomacy and leadership at the highest level.

Smith said she found it "amazing to see diplomacy in action and meet influential leaders." John said the experience left him feeling "more motivated to learn about diplomacy and leadership." Both responses reflect the initiative's stated aim of inspiring the next generation of Antiguan and Barbudan leaders ahead of CHOGM 2026.
