Residents across Antigua's eastern corridor are set to receive a significant healthcare upgrade, with ambulance services expected to launch soon at the Glanvilles Polyclinic. According to Antigua.news, the announcement was made by Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph during the official opening of the Medical Benefits Pharmacy at the facility.
Sir Molwyn Joseph confirmed that the government has already secured a dedicated ambulance for the polyclinic. The vehicle has been shipped and is currently en route to Antigua and Barbuda. Once it arrives and is fully commissioned, emergency ambulance services are expected to be operational within days.
The development marks a meaningful advance in emergency response capacity for the eastern region. Residents facing urgent medical situations will benefit from faster transport to critical care, potentially improving outcomes in life-threatening cases.
Communities slated to benefit include Glanvilles, Freetown, Pares, Seatons, Willikies, Newfield, Bethesda, and surrounding areas — many of which have long struggled with limited access to rapid emergency transport.
Sir Molwyn Joseph framed the initiative as part of a broader government effort to decentralize healthcare and bring critical medical services closer to where people live.
Looking ahead, the Health Minister indicated that further expansion of the country's primary healthcare network is planned. He noted that a third polyclinic will eventually be required to adequately serve Antigua's southern corridor, with proposed coverage extending from Golden Grove to Old Road.
The imminent launch of ambulance services at the Glanvilles Polyclinic represents another step in the government's ongoing drive to modernize healthcare infrastructure, strengthen emergency response, and ensure equitable access to quality care for all residents.
