Polls have closed in the St. Philip North by-election following a day of largely calm voting across the constituency, with ballot counting now set to begin.

According to Antigua News Room, voting commenced at 6 a.m. with all seven polling stations opening on schedule. Election officials reported steady turnout at various points throughout the day, though activity at some locations remained relatively slow.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of longtime Member of Parliament Sir Robin Yearwood, whose parliamentary career spanned five decades. The two-way contest pits Alex Browne of the United Progressive Party against Randy Baltimore of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.

Both candidates expressed confidence ahead of polling day.

With voting now concluded, election officials are expected to begin counting ballots shortly. Supporters of both the ABLP and the UPP are awaiting the outcome of what has been a closely watched race.
