Residents in Antigua's eastern corridor are set to benefit from improved emergency medical support, with ambulatory services slated to launch soon at the Glanvilles Polyclinic.
According to Antigua News Room, the announcement was made on March 10 by Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph during his address at the official opening ceremony of the Medical Benefits Pharmacy at the facility.
Minister Joseph revealed that the Government has already purchased a dedicated ambulance for the Glanvilles Polyclinic. The vehicle has been shipped, and the Ministry is currently awaiting its arrival in Antigua and Barbuda. Once the ambulance arrives and is fully commissioned, ambulatory services will become operational within days.
The new service is expected to significantly strengthen emergency response capabilities across the eastern corridor. It will provide rapid medical transport for residents experiencing urgent or emergency health conditions, ensuring timely care when it is needed most.
Communities set to benefit include Glanvilles, Freetown, Pares, Seatons, Willikies, Newfield, Bethesda, and surrounding villages, broadening access to emergency medical transport throughout the region.
Minister Joseph emphasized that the expansion of services at the Glanvilles Polyclinic forms part of the Government's broader strategy to decentralize healthcare and bring critical medical support closer to communities across Antigua and Barbuda.
Looking further ahead, the Minister outlined a long-term vision for strengthening the island's primary healthcare network. He indicated that a third polyclinic will eventually be required to adequately serve the southern corridor, covering communities from Golden Grove to Old Road.
Minister Joseph noted that initiatives such as this ambulance service reflect the Government's continued commitment to improving emergency response capabilities and ensuring that all citizens and residents have access to quality healthcare, regardless of where they live.
