Cricket legend and national hero Sir Vivian Richards represented Antigua and Barbuda at the 2026 Commonwealth Day celebrations in London, participating in a series of high-level diplomatic engagements. Commonwealth Day, observed annually, brings together leaders, diplomats, and citizens from across the 56 member states to celebrate shared values of democracy, cooperation, and development. This year's events included a ceremonial flag-raising at the UK Parliament, a wreath-laying ceremony at Memorial Gates in Hyde Park, a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey, and a reception hosted by the Commonwealth Secretary-General at St James's Palace.
The 2026 Commonwealth Day theme — "Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth" — underscores the collective commitment of member states to strengthening cooperation, advancing sustainable development, and creating opportunities for citizens across the Commonwealth.
Serving as Antigua and Barbuda's official Envoy for CHOGM 2026, Sir Vivian engaged with Commonwealth officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and international media, helping to spotlight the twin-island nation's preparations to welcome leaders from across the globe.
