Musician Dwight Laviscount has been named Instrumentalist of the Year at the National Music Awards, with organisers recognising his significant contributions to the development of instrumental music in Antigua and Barbuda. According to Antigua News Room, Laviscount was selected ahead of fellow finalists Dalma "Boogie" George and Javonte Chattel in the category honouring outstanding instrumental performers.

The awards ceremony highlighted Laviscount's efforts to advance music education and performance across the country. Organisers cited his work hosting clinics for young musicians in several schools and his role in launching Integral Music, an initiative focused on nurturing musical talent and collaboration.

His contributions to the local music scene through live performances, cross-genre collaborations and continued professional development with the Berklee College of Music were also recognised as part of the award citation.

Accepting the honour, Laviscount emphasised the importance of using music to inspire and mentor the next generation of performers.

"Just like to thank God for the gift and the talent to really present myself to Antigua and Barbuda, and not only that, to help train the next generation of musicians as well," he said.

Laviscount used the moment to underscore his belief in legacy and collective responsibility within the local music community.

"You know, it's never about just me as an individual, but we always have to remember that we have younger persons coming behind us, and we have to make sure we leave a legacy," he added.

He also took a moment to acknowledge his wife, who was present at the ceremony. "I always want to thank my wife as well. She's right there sitting," he said.

The Instrumentalist of the Year award was one of several presented at the National Music Awards, a ceremony recognising performers, producers and other contributors to Antigua and Barbuda's music industry.
