The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is intensifying its push to eliminate preventable blindness through the national "Blind Free Zone" initiative, backed by a significant injection of international support and technical resources.
Director of Communications Maurice Merchant confirmed that the programme, spearheaded by Minister of State in the Ministry of Health Senator Michael Joseph, has secured US$90,000 worth of specialised equipment as part of the effort. Overseas training for local medical personnel forms another key component of the initiative.
The "Blind Free Zone" programme reflects the government's broader commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for residents, particularly those at risk of vision loss from preventable conditions. Senator Joseph has been at the forefront of driving the initiative through Cabinet, which has now formally advanced its implementation.
