Antiguan police have arrested and charged a Canadian national after officers seized a large quantity of cannabis at V.C. Bird International Airport earlier this week, according to Antigua.news.
Roselynee Crisostomo, 48, faces multiple charges including possession of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, being concerned in the supplying of cannabis, drug trafficking, and importation of cannabis.
The charges stem from a joint drug interdiction operation conducted at the airport on Tuesday, March 10. At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers from the Narcotics Department, working alongside members of the Special Services Unit (SSU), the K-9 Unit, and the Customs Enforcement Unit, carried out coordinated checks on arriving passengers.
Crisostomo had arrived in Antigua aboard Air Canada flight AC1832 from Toronto. Officers stopped and searched her during the operation, discovering two suitcases containing 61 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis with a combined weight of 67 pounds.
Authorities seized the drugs and took Crisostomo into custody. Police estimate the street value of the cannabis at approximately EC$536,000.
Crisostomo is expected to appear before the court at a later date as investigations continue.
