The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has confirmed plans to install a comprehensive island-wide CCTV surveillance system across 43 strategic locations, reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening national security and public safety.
According to Antigua News Room, the necessary equipment has already been shipped and is expected to arrive within the next 30 days. Installation is scheduled to begin immediately upon arrival, with full deployment anticipated within two months.
The 43 identified sites span major public spaces, commercial areas, and key tourist corridors, including Fort James and Bay Street. The placement of high-definition cameras at these locations is designed to enhance crime detection and deterrence, support law enforcement investigations, and improve overall public order management.
The new CCTV network will bolster the operational capacity of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, enabling real-time monitoring and faster response to incidents. Authorities say the system will serve as a critical tool in combatting muggings, theft, and other petty crimes in areas frequented by both residents and visitors.
Beyond the technological deployment, Cabinet has also indicated that police presence and surveillance activities will be intensified on high-traffic tourist days to further protect visitors and uphold Antigua and Barbuda's standing as a safe destination.
