A 34-year-old American national has been fined $1,000 after pleading guilty to cannabis possession following his arrest at V.C. Bird International Airport. According to Antigua News Room, the case stems from an incident on March 7th, when a police drug-detection dog alerted officers to a black suitcase belonging to the traveller upon his arrival on a United Airlines flight.

The man, identified as Fady Aziz Saloum, was detained by authorities after the canine unit flagged his luggage during routine screening at the airport. He subsequently appeared before the court and entered a guilty plea to the possession charge.

The court imposed a fine of $1,000. As reported by Antigua News Room, Saloum is a United States national who had arrived in Antigua aboard the United Airlines service when the detection dog drew officers' attention to his baggage.
