A senior Pan-American Health Organization official has outlined a sweeping strategy to strengthen the Eastern Caribbean's capacity to detect and respond to emerging health threats, with Antigua and Barbuda at the centre of a major push toward digital health infrastructure.
According to Antigua Observer, Dr. Prabhjot Singh, PAHO's Lead Advisor for Health Surveillance and Disease Prevention, shared the details during an appearance on Observer AM. The epidemiologist described how Antigua and Barbuda is actively transitioning away from traditional paper-based record systems toward a modernized, digital-first approach to public health management.
Dr. Singh emphasized that upgrading health surveillance systems is critical to the region's ability to identify and contain disease outbreaks before they escalate. The shift to digital platforms, he indicated, forms a core pillar of what he described as a broader strategy to build a stronger defensive shield for Caribbean health security.
