Education, Sports and Creative Industries Minister Daryll Matthew has announced a new youth competition category and a training initiative aimed at strengthening Antigua and Barbuda's music industry.
According to Antigua News Room, Matthew made the announcement during his address at the National Music Awards on Tuesday night, using the platform to outline the government's broader efforts to develop the local music sector.
Among the key announcements was the introduction of a new Young Roadmarch category, set to debut at Carnival 2026. The initiative is designed to provide young artists with a dedicated competitive platform within the country's flagship cultural celebration.
Minister Matthew also highlighted a training push intended to build capacity within the industry, signalling the government's intention to invest in developing emerging talent across the sector.
The National Music Awards served as the backdrop for the announcement, bringing together artists, industry stakeholders and government officials in recognition of local musical achievement.
