A single-day fundraising effort tied to International Women's Day has raised more than EC$1,200 for a local youth charity, underscoring the growing impact of Antigua and Barbuda's Young Women in Leadership programme.
According to Antigua News Room, the IWD Piggy Bank Initiative collected the funds in support of Youth Arise, a charity founded by Ms. Makiba Ward, a participant in the 2026 Young Women in Leadership (YWiL) cohort. The initiative formed a central part of YWiL's activities as the programme wrapped up its eight-week mentorship cycle.
The fundraiser highlighted the spirit of collective giving and youth-led philanthropy that YWiL seeks to cultivate among its participants. By channelling the day's contributions toward a charity created by one of their own, the initiative demonstrated both the personal development and community impact the programme aims to inspire.
YWiL's eight-week mentorship programme brings together young women across Antigua and Barbuda, providing them with leadership training, guidance, and opportunities to engage meaningfully with their communities. The conclusion of this latest cycle marks another milestone for the initiative as it continues to shape the next generation of female leaders in the country.
