The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has revealed that homicides in 2026 have increased by 100 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Antigua Observer.
The alarming statistic came to light shortly after the body of Ashworth O'Brien was discovered in the Gray's Farm community early Tuesday morning. The finding prompted police to address the rising homicide rate publicly.
As reported by Antigua Observer, the Commissioner of Police made the announcement in the wake of O'Brien's death, underscoring growing concern over the escalating level of violent crime in the country.
The Gray's Farm community, located in the heart of Antigua, has been the scene of the latest in a string of fatal incidents that authorities say have pushed this year's homicide figures to twice those recorded at the same point in 2025.
