Prime Minister Gaston Browne has revealed that additional members of the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) are preparing to defect to the governing Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), citing what he describes as deepening divisions within the opposition ranks.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the disclosure during his weekly radio appearance, claiming that internal fractures within the UPP are driving some of its members to consider switching their political allegiance to the ruling party.
The Prime Minister did not identify the individuals by name but indicated that the movement of UPP members toward the ABLP is ongoing, suggesting the opposition party is facing significant internal challenges.
The claims, if borne out, could further weaken the UPP's standing ahead of future electoral contests in Antigua and Barbuda. The opposition party has yet to publicly respond to Browne's assertions.
