Integrated Health Outreach (IHO), in partnership with the Directorate of Gender Affairs (DOGA), organised a national gender-based violence walk on Saturday to raise funds and awareness for victims of domestic abuse, according to Antigua Observer.
The event, held in the lead-up to International Women's Day, centred on the pressing need for a dedicated women's shelter in Antigua and Barbuda. Organisers used the march to spotlight the challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence who currently lack access to a purpose-built refuge facility in the country.
The collaborative effort between IHO and DOGA reflects growing momentum among civil society and government agencies to address gender-based violence as a national priority. By staging the walk ahead of International Women's Day, organisers sought to channel the occasion's visibility into concrete action and community support for the shelter initiative.
