A fire at Cook's Sanitary Landfill is smouldering after being brought under control, marking the second such incident at the disposal site in exactly one week. According to Antigua Observer, the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) confirmed that a minor flare-up occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m. in the same location where a major blaze had previously broken out.
The back-to-back incidents at the landfill have raised concerns about fire safety and management at the facility, as investigations into the cause of the blazes continue. The NSWMA has not yet disclosed the findings of those ongoing inquiries.
Authorities have not indicated whether the two fires are believed to be connected, and no further details regarding the origin or cause of either incident have been released at this time.
