The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) has pushed back against allegations of prolonged uncollected garbage in the Seatons and Glanvilles communities, according to Antigua Observer.
In a formal statement issued by its Board of Directors, the NSWMA rejected claims made by United Progressive Party (UPP) caretaker for St. Peter, George Wehner, who had alleged that residents in those communities were left without waste collection services for several weeks.
The authority clarified that collection services in Seatons and Glanvilles experienced delays on Wednesday, February, but stopped short of characterising the disruption as a weeks-long failure as Wehner had suggested.
As reported by Antigua Observer, the NSWMA's statement directly contradicts the UPP caretaker's characterisation of the situation, drawing a clear line between a temporary service delay and the more serious claim of sustained neglect raised by the opposition-aligned representative.
The dispute highlights ongoing public scrutiny of waste management services across Antigua, particularly in rural and semi-rural communities where residents have at times raised concerns about the consistency and reliability of garbage collection schedules.
