ST. JOHN'S, Antigua — Governor General Sir Rodney Williams urged aspiring physicians to embrace compassion and humility as the cornerstones of medical practice during a landmark ceremony for students at the American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine on Friday.
According to Antigua News Room, Sir Rodney delivered the feature address at the AUA White Coat Ceremony, held at the AUA Convention and Conference Center. The event marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the incoming medical students, who received their white coats in a tradition that formally welcomes them into the medical profession.
The White Coat Ceremony is widely recognised across medical schools as a rite of passage, symbolising the responsibilities and ethical standards students are expected to uphold throughout their careers. The occasion brings together students, faculty, and guests to commemorate the beginning of the students' clinical and professional formation.
Sir Rodney's address centred on the values that define exemplary medical care, as he challenged the newest class of AUA medical students to carry both skill and empathy into their future practice.
