Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced a $25 million investment to transform the former Deluxe Cinema property into a national Performing Arts Center, with the facility expected to be unveiled later this year.
According to Antigua Observer, the announcement was made during the launch of the "Commonwealth Quilt" initiative at the John E. St. Luce Conference Centre on Tuesday, where Browne outlined a broader vision for the country's creative sector.
Alongside the landmark infrastructure investment, the Prime Minister pledged new protections for workers and participants in the creative industry, signaling a wider commitment by the government to developing and safeguarding the arts in Antigua and Barbuda.
The conversion of the Deluxe Cinema site into a dedicated performing arts venue represents one of the more significant cultural infrastructure projects announced by the Browne administration in recent years. The facility is intended to serve as a national hub for the performing arts.
As reported by Antigua Observer, further details surrounding the project's timeline, design, and the specific protections planned for the creative sector are expected to be released as the initiative progresses.
