The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is moving swiftly to establish the legal framework for a national immigration amnesty programme, with Parliament set to convene within the next two weeks to debate and pass critical changes to existing immigration law.

Director General of Communications in the Prime Minister's Office, Maurice Merchant, detailed the government's plan, outlining the legislative steps required to regularise the status of long-term residents currently living in the country without formal documentation.

The parliamentary session will focus on amendments designed to create the foundational legal structure necessary for the amnesty initiative to proceed. The programme is intended to provide a pathway for qualifying individuals who have resided in Antigua and Barbuda for extended periods to formalise their immigration status.
