The case of Karim Edwards, accused of causing the death of AUA student Kenneth Mathew and injuring Priyanjana Das due to reckless driving, has faced another delay. Edwards allegedly hit the students on Friars Hill Road on October 23, 2022.
After being served his case file last Thursday, the committal hearing was postponed to July 11, marking the ninth delay since Edwards’ first court appearance over a year ago.
Mathew, 21, died from severe brain trauma, while Das, 19, survived but suffered significant injuries.
Edwards’ charge was elevated from dangerous driving to causing death by dangerous driving. Magistrate Dexter Wason will assess the evidence to decide if the case will move to a higher court.
The next hearing is set for October 28.
