Antigua and Barbuda Residents Offer Accommodations for SIDS4 Delegates, Ministry Ensures Quality Standards

Antigua and Barbuda are gearing up for the prestigious Fourth Conference of Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), with the local community stepping forward in an impressive display of hospitality. The event, expected to draw approximately 5,000 international delegates, has seen a remarkable offer of accommodations from hundreds of residents, reflecting the nation’s warm welcome and readiness for this significant occasion.

St. Clair Soleyn, the esteemed Project Development Officer at the Ministry of Tourism, has expressed gratitude for the overwhelming community support. This response comes in the wake of the government’s decision to explore local housing options over the initial cruise ship accommodation plan. Property owners interested in hosting delegates are encouraged to register their premises for a thorough inspection to ensure they adhere to comprehensive standards. These criteria, mirroring the essentials of a 2-Star hotel, encompass security measures, internet connectivity, cleanliness, provision of linen, and the availability of card payment options.

To further assist potential hosts and streamline the preparation process, a townhall meeting has been organized. This assembly will delve into various critical aspects including health protocols, transportation logistics, technological support, security considerations, and cooperation with the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS). Additionally, the introduction of a dedicated conference application is underway. This digital platform is designed to furnish delegates with all necessary information about Antigua and Barbuda, thereby enriching their experience at SIDS4.

This collective effort underscores Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to showcasing their unique culture and hospitality, while facilitating meaningful dialogue and collaboration among Small Island Developing States.
