Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has decided to abandon plans for a new reverse osmosis plant in Bethesda in favor of building at Crabbes Peninsula.
This change aims to replace the outdated plant established in 1988. John Bradshaw, the General Manager of APUA, stated that the move is motivated by cost and efficiency considerations.
The old facility has surpassed its practical lifespan, resulting in increased maintenance expenses. Bradshaw pointed out that by leveraging existing infrastructure at Crabbes, APUA can save approximately $20 million, which would have been spent if construction started from scratch in Bethesda.
Bradshaw further noted that this new development at Crabbes will significantly improve water supply reliability, with an expected increase of seven million gallons by the end of 2025.
