New Curfew for Minors: Parents Face Hefty Fines for Non-Compliance

Attorney General and Minister of Public Safety, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, has announced that the curfew for minors, effective from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., is now officially enforced. This regulation is part of the recent amendments to the Small Charges Act, which were approved by Parliament last month.

Under the new law, parents or guardians could be fined up to XCD$5,000 if their children are found violating the curfew. The legislation is a response to growing concerns about youth loitering and is part of a wider strategy to tackle violent crime and anti-social behavior among young people.

These amendments, included in the Small Charges (Amendment) Bill 2024, came into effect on October 1 after being published in the Gazette.

The government aims to protect the youth and ensure that parents play a more active role in supervising their children, thereby fostering a safer community environment.
