AT&LU Hosts Townhall to Address Dominican Republic Community Concerns in Antigua and Barbuda

In a recent Townhall Meeting, the Antigua and Barbuda Trades & Labour Union (AT&LU), under the leadership of President Bernard de Nully, engaged with the Dominican Republic community residing in Antigua and Barbuda. This gathering was a pivotal step in enhancing dialogue and strengthening ties between the local and migrant populations.

Julio Naso, a prominent pastor within the Dominican Republic community, spoke on the necessity for unity among migrant workers. His presence underscored the spiritual and communal support networks that are crucial for integrating migrants. Wascar Feliz, Vice Consul for the Dominican Republic, provided valuable information on the services offered by the Dominican government to its expatriates, showing a commitment to their welfare.

Alex de Jesus Martinez Tatis, leading the “DOMINICANS WITH LABOUR” group, highlighted the cooperative efforts between Dominican workers and local labor unions. His remarks focused on the contributions of migrant workers, particularly in domestic and construction sectors, and praised the AT&LU for its support in advocating for these workers’ rights.

The meeting was not just a forum for discussion but also a commitment to action. Key issues discussed included labor rights, social integration, and the enhancement of working conditions for migrant laborers. President Bernard de Nully reiterated the AT&LU’s commitment to ensuring fair treatment and equal opportunities for all workers, emphasizing the union’s role in protecting the rights of all laborers in Antigua and Barbuda, irrespective of their origin.
