Persistent Delays in Cancer Centre’s Reopening May Require Government Intervention

During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne hinted at potential government intervention to hasten the Cancer Centre Eastern Caribbean’s reopening.

The delay stems from unresolved negotiations over equipment between the previous owner, Dr. Conville Brown, and the new purchasers.

Browne mentioned an upcoming meeting this week between the receiver and the attorney for the owners, hoping it would lead to a quick resolution.

Should the talks fail, he warned that the government may take the equipment by force to ensure the center’s prompt reopening and the resumption of cancer treatment services.

The facility was acquired for EC$13 million by a North American health organization, with Sir Dr. Joseph ‘Joey’ John playing a role in the transaction.
