In response to a surge in violent crime, including the tragic murders of two young individuals, Prime Minister Gaston Browne is set to address the nation tonight at 7:00 PM. The address comes on the heels of intensive discussions with the police hierarchy and Public Safety Minister Sir Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin, signaling a government intent on taking decisive action.

The crime wave has seen Antigua and Barbuda grappling with 10 murders this year, with August alone witnessing three of these heinous acts. The most recent case involves the brutal murder of 15-year-old Achazia James, whose body was discovered on Runaway Beach with gruesome injuries. On June 28th, the community was shocked by the death of 16-year-old Yenifer Bridge, found along Fig Tree Drive, with investigations pointing towards kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder.
