The government of Antigua and Barbuda is working swiftly to open the new airport, with Prime Minister Gaston Browne and other officials meeting with representatives from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA). Development Commissioner Ambassador Daven Joseph has presented a plan to achieve international status and facilitate domestic flights, which are essential for hurricane evacuations.
The airport, which was finished months ago, is still waiting for regulatory approval from ECCAA. However, the cooperation between the government and ECCAA indicates that certification for both international and domestic operations is likely to happen soon, which is vital for the anticipated growth of the domestic sector.
