KINGSTON, Jamaica, ( DPI) – The Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC) is set to revolutionise the tourism industry with a series of artificial intelligence (AI)-driven initiatives.
Minister of tourism, Edmund Bartlett, said these initiatives encompass dedicated training and capacity-building programmes, thought leadership, and advocacy efforts.
Addressing the opening ceremony on day one (February 17) of the third Global Resilience Conference & Expo, held at the Princess Hotel in Green Island, Hanover, the minister said that tourism stakeholders, globally, will then be equipped with cutting-edge digital skills to further champion the industry to be more agile, inclusive, and future-ready.
“These initiatives collectively stand to transform global tourism. They illustrate how resilient building efforts can range, from environmental sustainability to public health and from heritage preservation to digital innovation, all converging to create a seamless and sustainable global tourism environment,” Bartlett explained.
He indicated that the GTRCMC’s AI initiatives are expected to reshape global tourism by integrating digital resilience into destination management strategies.
Minister Bartlett explained that these efforts are to focus on real-time data analytics to monitor travel flows, consumer trends, and potential risks to enable proactive decision-making.
Moreover, virtual engagements and digital marketing will also allow destinations to maintain global visibility even during travel disruptions, he said, thus ensuring continued interest and investment in tourism sectors.
“There is also robust crisis communication by facilitating swift and clear communication with stakeholders, travellers and local communities in times of crisis,” Bartlett noted.
“So, getting precise information, adequate and proper information about what’s happening, where it’s happening, how it’s happening, who it is happening to and who is affected, is critical to crisis management. That’s a huge part of the job that we have to do to enable robust crisis communication.” The minister said by weaving these digital tools into tourism strategies, stakeholders worldwide can foresee disruptions, respond effectively to crisis and ensure the continuity of “this vital sector”.
The two-day conference, themed ‘Building Tourism Resilience Through Digital Transformation’, brings together international tourism leaders, policymakers, and industry experts.
There will be extensive discussions on digital solutions for destination resilience, artificial intelligence applications in tourism, data analytics, cybersecurity, and the transformation of developing country destinations through digital technologies.
“We invite each and every one from across the world to embrace the essence of tourism resilience, not just as a means of being able to track, mitigate, manage, recover and thrive after disruptions but as a means of ensuring sustainable development and growth,” Bartlett said.
