Barbuda is Scheduled to See Its First International Flight on Friday

POINTE XPRESS- Barbuda is Scheduled to See Its First International Flight on Friday.

The Immigration Department is mounting a training course for approximately twenty of its officers who will be based at the new international airport in Barbuda.

Chief Immigration Officer, Katrina Yearwood, said the department is running the training ahead of the first international flight that will land at the new airport on Friday.

“We have organized a brief refresher on customer service for the Barbuda team comprising of seasoned Immigration officers and new recruits. The sessions run for three days to include both theory and practical exercises.”

“Additionally, there will be a practice session on Thursday at the FBO in Barbuda to get the new recruits comfortable and ready to process passengers coming to Barbuda,” Yearwood explained.

She revealed that a larger and more holistic approach regarding customer service to include the entire department will take place in the new year.

“This ad hoc refresher has been designed primarily for the new recruits. Our hospitality consultant, Michael Eutrope, kindly agreed to provide the session to the Department of Immigration. I look forward to the more robust customer service training segment in the first quarter of 2025 that will also include other stakeholders,” Yearwood further explained.

Airport sources say the flight that is scheduled to arrive on Friday is not a commercial flight but one of many private jets that are expected in both Antigua and over in Barbuda during the upcoming holiday period.
