TORONTO, Canada – Taiwan Pavilion E255 at Collision 2024 thrilled audiences featuring a diverse array of startups showcasing Taiwan’s vibrant and dynamic ecosystem.
Taiwanese Startups to Shine at Collision 2024 in Toronto
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), commissioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan, in collaboration with Taipei Economic & Cultural Office, (TECO) featuring Taiwan’s innovative products and services, at Collision 2024, held June 17- 20, 2024 at the Enercare Centre in Toronto, Canada.
At the opening of Taiwan’s Pavillion at Collision 2024, Director General of Taipei Economic & Cultural Office, (TECO) Jin-Ling Chen, said TECO is thrilled, for the second consecutive year, showcasing Taiwan’s remarkable advances and dynamic ecosystem in the start-up and innovative sectors.
“There’s a significant increase in Taiwanese investors and businesses looking to expand or start their operations in Ontario, especially in the biosciences and high-tech sectors,” Director General Chen, continued. “The Taiwanese government has been diligent, working with the Canadian government through bilateral and multilateral collaboration, aiming to provide a supportive ecosystem for Canada-Taiwan two-day trade and investment.”
Last December, the signing of the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection arrangement represents a significant milestone in Taiwan – Canada bilateral relations.
Invitation to establish provincial trade offices in Taipei
“Two Canadian provincial trade offices in Taipei have been established by the Alberta and British Columbia governments, respectively. Today, we are honoured to have Minister Victor Fedeli at our event. I want to take this opportunity to extend our invitation to the Ontario government to establish one in Taipei, thereby promoting Canada’s most prosperous province to Taiwan and enhancing our economic collaboration,” Director General Chen, advised.
The relationship and economic cooperation between Taiwan and Canada have significantly strengthened in recent years, in addition to the efforts made on bilateral relations.
“Taiwan is looking to join the multilateral free trade agreement, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP),” noted Director General Chen. “ Taiwan is a reliable partner and has equipped itself in line with the high standards of the CPTPP.”
Taiwan, Canada, and CPTPP provides “ a great opportunity to create a more inclusive and robust Indo-Pacific market for Canadian industry by including Taiwan in this free trade block,” Director General Chen, affirmed.

Recently, two major Taiwanese investments were made in Canada:
E-One Moli’s expansion of its battery manufacturing facility in British Columbia; and,
WT Microelectronics’ acquisition of Future Electronics in Quebec, each investment exceeding CAD$1 billion.
Taiwanese banks will open branches in Toronto
This year, in Toronto, “two major Taiwanese banks will open branches,” Director General Chen, announced. “Taiwan is ready and eager to make more engagement with Canada, focusing on the development of clean energy, semiconductors, AI, and next-generation communications sector.”
“Taiwan is ready to take bold steps globally,” said, TECO Director General Chen. “ We look forward to forging stronger partnership with Canada and the global community, driving forward a future of shared prosperity and a sustainable economy.”
