Washington, D.C. — Sir Ronald Sanders, Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), extended a formal invitation on behalf of Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the government of Antigua and Barbuda to host the 55th regular session of the OAS General Assembly in June 2025.
In his statement, Ambassador Sanders emphasized the nation’s commitment to the OAS and its foundational principles, recognizing the critical role the organization plays in upholding democracy and the rule of law across the Americas.
“We make this offer because Antigua and Barbuda deeply cherishes the Organization of American States and the foundational principles outlined in its Charter,” Sanders stated. “We recognize the challenges to democracy and the rule of law in the Americas, challenges that would be far more daunting without our collective efforts within the OAS.”
Antigua and Barbuda’s capacity to host significant international gatherings was recently demonstrated by the successful hosting of the fourth United Nations Conference on Small Island Developing States, which saw participation from over 5,000 delegates, including governmental representatives, the United Nations Secretariat, and civil society leaders worldwide.
“The success of hosting the UN conference and now inviting the OAS to come to Antigua and Barbuda underlines the pride of our people in promoting global dialogue and contributing to international cooperation,” Sanders remarked. “We believe that we offer not just a venue but a retreat conducive to thoughtful deliberation and visionary outcomes.”
The invitation was supported by a brief video presentation showcasing Antigua and Barbuda’s welcoming atmosphere and the natural spirit of happiness that embodies the nation. Ambassador Sanders expressed enthusiasm and readiness to host the OAS General Assembly, emphasizing the nation’s preparedness and eagerness to welcome delegates from all member states.
Ambassador Sanders called for the support of the OAS members, expressing confidence that the assembly would facilitate meaningful dialogue, inspire decisive action, and strengthen bonds among nations for the benefit of all, both large and small.
“We have made our formal offer confirmed at this meeting and we now seek your support,” Sanders concluded. “We eagerly anticipate hosting a vibrant assembly that will not only facilitate dialogue but will inspire decisive action and foster stronger bonds among our nations.”
