UPP 12th Biennial Opening Ceremony to Commence this Saturday: General Public Welcomed to Attend

The United Progressive Party (UPP) is set to commence its 12th Biennial Convention with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday, April 20, at 6 PM at the Multipurpose Centre.

Themed “Together in Unity: Forward to Victory,” the convention aims to unite party leaders, members, and supporters, acknowledging that a unified front is crucial for enhancing the quality of life for all residents of Antigua and Barbuda.

The Opening Ceremony will showcase three distinguished Caribbean change-makers: Antiguan Commissioner Dion Irish, Chief of Operations for the City of Boston, MA; Ms. Mickela Panday, former M.P. from Trinidad and Tobago; and Dr. Thomson Fontaine, Political Leader of the UWP in Dominica. Additionally, remarks will be delivered by Senator Damion Crawford from Jamaica, Hon. Trevor Walker, M.P. for Barbuda, and UPP Political Leader Hon. Jamale Pringle.

Harold Lovell, Chair of the Convention Planning Committee, describes the convention as a platform for education, inspiration, and collaboration. He is pleased with the activities that have taken place so far, including a Thanksgiving Service, Media Day, and Games Night. “This will be a unifying event that will highlight our Party’s accomplishments and our vision for the future. It will be an opportunity to witness democracy in action as we chart the course to victory. Our members and supporters are energized to work together to create a better future that will uplift all Antiguans and Barbudans,” said Lovell.

The general public is invited to attend the Opening Ceremony, which will also be live streamed via Progressive Radio, Observer Radio, and UPP social media channels. The event will feature entertainment by the Kuttin Eddge Band and is expected to attract a large audience both in-person and online.

Convention Week will conclude with the business session on Sunday, April 21, during which a new Central Executive Committee will be elected to manage the UPP’s affairs for the next two years.
