Jamale Pringle Re-elected as Leader of United Progressive Party

In a highly anticipated outcome, Jamale Pringle, contested against Richard Lewis, has been returned as the leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) during the party’s 12th biennial convention today.

Pringle received 237 votes compared to 173 for Richard Lewis.

This re-election solidifies Pringle’s leadership position within the UPP and reflects a unified support base within the party.

Party chairperson D. Gisele Isaac also returned to the position as chair of the country’s main opposition.

Stay tuned for further updates and reactions following this significant development in the UPP’s leadership.

Jamale Pringle, who assumed the role of acting party leader from Harold Lovell following Lovell’s resignation after the January 2023 election, has clinched the leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Pringle’s journey to leadership began in March 2018 when he became Opposition Leader after the UPP’s near-total defeat in the previous election, where he retained the party’s only seat in the House of Representatives.

Despite initial skepticism from analysts, Pringle’s victory tonight cements his position as party leader and may quiet some doubts about his leadership capabilities.

However, the road ahead presents challenges as he navigates rallying support within the party, crafting his image as a potential Prime Minister, and confronting incumbent Gaston Browne of the Labour Party.

The coming days will shed light on Pringle’s strategies for unifying MPs and party candidates, shaping his leadership identity, and preparing for political battles against Browne’s administration.
