Search Continues for Suspects Allegedly Using Bulletproof Vests in Cassada Gardens Armed Robbery

In the early hours of the morning, a daring robbery and shooting took place in Cassada Gardens. Police are actively searching for the perpetrators, who were reportedly wearing bulletproof vests during the incident.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the buttocks during the robbery. Responding officers found the victim, an employee of Shell Beach Seafood, lying injured on the side of the road. He was quickly transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS). Additionally, officers allegedly recovered a weapon at the scene.

The other robbery victim, a Freetown man also employed by the same business, managed to escape unharmed.

The two men were traveling in a white Hyundai box truck and passing through Cassada Gardens after leaving Cedar Valley at around 5:50 a.m. They were en route to the St. John’s terminal to catch the Barbuda Ferry and had a sum of cash to purchase lobster on the sister-island.

At about 6 a.m., while traveling from north to south on a by-road in Cassada Gardens, a black Wrangler jeep with three occupants blocked their path. The three men allegedly exited the vehicle, held the victims at gunpoint, and robbed them of the money, as well as other personal items. They then fled in an easterly direction, reportedly making off with over $38,000 in cash.

The alleged robbers were said to be wearing dark-colored clothing under their bulletproof vests. A report of the robbery and shooting was made to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) by a constable from Police Headquarters.
